SS 409 steel plate is a 12% chromium, titanium stabilised ferritic stainless steel. SS 409 steel plate has fair resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures. In the annealed condition SS 409 steel plate is ductile, does not work harden and can be formed using a variety of roll forming, bending or mild pressing/ stamping operations. SS 409 steel plate is resistant to stress corrosion cracking but has limited weldablity.

This alloy is quite ductile in the annealed condition and can be easily formed using all commonly employed practices. Experienced fabricators report that it is similar in formability to soft carbon steel.
